Astrophysics - New astrophysics findings from R. Bandiera and co-researchers published

2008 DEC 8 - (VerticalNews.com) -- "A mysterious X-ray nebula, showing a remarkably linear geometry, was recently discovered close to the Guitar Nebula, the bow-shock nebula associated with B2224+65, which is the fastest pulsar known. The nature of this X-ray feature is unknown, and even its association with pulsar B2224+65 is unclear," researchers in Florence, Italy report.

"We attempt to develop a self-consistent scenario to explain the complex phenomenology of this object. We assume that the highest energy electrons accelerated at the termination shock escape from the bow shock and diffuse into the ambient medium, where they emit synchrotron X-rays. The linear geometry should reflect the plane-parallel geometry of its ambient field. We estimate the Lorentz factor of the X-ray emitting electrons and the strength of the magnetic field. The former (similar or equal to 10(8)) is close to its maximum possible value, while the latter, at similar or equal to 45 mu G, is higher than typical interstellar values and must have been amplified in some way. The magnetic field must also be turbulent to some degree to trap the electrons sufficiently for synchrotron X-ray emission to occur effectively. We propose a self-consistent scenario in which, by some streaming instability, the electrons themselves generate a turbulent field in which they then diffuse. Some numerical coincidences are explained, and tests are proposed to verify our scenario," wrote R. Bandiera and colleagues ...read more

Astrophysics - Researchers from Jadavpur University detail new studies and findings in the area of astrophysics

2008 DEC 1 - (VerticalNews.com) -- According to recent research from Calcutta, India, "In this paper, we study the domain wall with time dependent displacement vectors based on Lyra geometry in normal gauge i.e. displacement vector phi(i) * = [beta(t),0,0,0]. The field theoretic energy momentum tensor is considered with zero pressure perpendicular to the wall."

"We find an exact solutions of Einstein's equation for a scalar field phi with a potential V(phi) describing the gravitational field of a plane symmetric domain wall. We have seen that the hyper surfaces parallel to the wall (z=constant) are three dimensional de-sitter spaces," wrote F. Rahaman and colleagues, Jadavpur University ...read more

Astrophysics - New astrophysics study findings have been reported from F. Daniel et al

2008 NOV 3 - (VerticalNews.com) -- "The improvement in observational facilities requires refining the modelling of the geometrical structures of astrophysical objects. Nevertheless, for complex problems such as line overlap in molecules showing hyperfine structure, a detailed analysis still requires a large amount of computing time and thus, misinterpretation cannot be dismissed due to an undersampling of the whole space of parameters," scientists in Madrid, Spain report ...read more
